I've pretty much done everything in newsrooms large and small, from writing/reporting to shooting/developing/printing/photo editing to designing to copy editing to, well, being an editor. But at the Times, I'm a utility infielder, designing pages in the A, B, business, sports and regional sections, copy editing when needed, pinch-hitting in news art and maybe even writing occasionally.
I've haunted the newsrooms of the Tampa Bay Times/St. Petersburg Times, The Detroit News, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, The Alliance (Ohio) Review, and the Watsonville (Calif.) Register-Pajaronian (when it was a daily). I also edited a small paper in the Times' shadow for a while, and cut my teeth at a thrice-weekly in a northern West Virginia college town.
