About me
Colin Smith is currently working at the Fort Collins Coloradoan, on loan from the Gannett Phoenix Design Studio. Before that, he worked at the Salt Lake Tribune in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Kitsap Sun in Bremerton, Wash., the Daily Herald in Provo, Utah, the Courier News in Elgin, Ill., and the Press-Telegram in Long Beach, Calif. And before all that, he graduated from the University of Southern California in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in urban planning.

Qwikster, Netflix and Branding

Recently mixed into all the brouhaha over the Netflix price increases and eventual separation of DVD- and streaming-based services was the announcement of Qwikster — the awfully named offspring of Netflix.

Now, I can understand the need for price increases. In fact, as a customer, I may even keep both services for a while. But what I can't understand is why Netflix would insist on using such terrible branding for Qwikster.
