What happened to the original NewsPageDesigner.com?
The site's server needed an upgrade, which would have also required the site to be reprogrammed. That was too much expense for our host, the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Maine, to rationalize, so they decided to sell their part of the site. Since the asking price was far mare than we could raise, we had to start over.
The Sun Journal hosted the site for seven years - five of those after I left the company - so despite having to start over, I am deeply appreciative of their support (especially Eric Kaiser's work). The site wouldn't have existed otherwise.
Our collaboration with SND should ensure a long and stable life for the site.
Can we still retrieve our work from the original site?
I often get asked about pages that were on the original NewPageDesigner site when it went offline. As far as I know, the database still exists at the Sun Journal, but the server is offline and shut down.
We posted notices of our site for several months and spread the word through the blogs that the site could be going away, in the hope of giving everyone a chance to back up their work. I'm very sorry to anyone who lost their work.
Please feel free to ask questions. It will help us build this page. Thanks.
