Former designer at The News Tribune
About me
I am an enthusiastic page designer and copy editor with 16 years of daily newspaper experience who in 2013 was named by the Society of Professional Journalists as the top page designer in a five-state region. I've spent the past 16 years in newspapers, first on page one and nation/world at the Gazette-Times in Corvallis, Ore. I helped lead my newsroom during the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and when the U.S. went to war in Iraq. After becoming features editor, my focus switched to appealing local stories that make people smile, shed tears or simply connect with the community. For more than six years, I worked hard to bring centerpieces to life with a sharp editing eye and a creative mind for design at The Olympian newspaper in Olympia, Wash., and then The News Tribune newspaper in Tacoma, Wash. My most recent focus was designing the entertainment sections for both newspapers. I also edited large Sunday stories that cover a variety of topics, the Sunday business section and the daily opinion page. I have vast experience and a passion for editing and designing arts, food, travel, lifestyle and health pieces.
