Also was a sports writer in Emporia, Kan., from 2000-2002, assistant sports editor at the McAllen (Texas) Monitor in 2002-2003, copy editor/designer/page 2 editor at the Topeka (Kan.) Capital Journal from 2003-2007, and news copy editor/assistant sports editor/assistant universal desk chief at the Daily Press in Newport News, Va., from 2007-2009.
