One of the biggest collaborative efforts I’ve worked on since I arrived at the Chronicle a year ago. The story is about how Texas’ restrictive state laws regarding abortion — recently struck down by the Supreme Court — caused a lot of the state’s clinics to close. Data journalist Rachael Gleason compiled the info for an interactive feature. I converted it to print. At the last minute, we needed to boost the oomph factor of this graphic to give it enough impact to be an A1 centerpiece. That’s when Ken Ellis stepped up with the 3D map. Page designer Clarissa Contreras made it work.
