This is the prototypical Nation & World page – 1 + 3 column architecture. What we encourage designers to do is to use the space creatively. We want some serendipity for our readers. So, yes, we could have used a non-policy, non-stat kind of story for our display, but this story – about how men (black, white and Hispanic) – have encounters with the law that taint their records for a lifetime. How do we display that? Again, the structure allows us time to think and come up with something different, engaging and – we hope – unexpected.
