My old colleague Scott Brown — formerly of the Orange County Register — sent us a full-page graphic celebrating the 100th birthday of the Coast Guard. It’s relevant to us, because we’re so close to the coast. We even have a Coast Guard station in our readership area. I used his graphic on the back page of our Your Life section, but I needed something for the front. I used some great Frank Tilley file photos from 2011, wrote a little more about the formation of the USCG in 1915 from two previous agencies and then built a little map of the local facilities across the bottom of the page.
