These WaPo live covers usually are done by illustrators. This was much more data driven and was having a tough time thinking how someone would draw diabetes. I used data I dug up from the CDC. The chart contains 2910 dots. Each dot equals 10,000 people and charts the growth from 1958 (first year data was available) until today.
