We had been working on our “Blindsided” series — about questionable billing practices particularly common in Texas emergency rooms — since mid-spring. It got delayed and delayed again and then totally derailed by Hurricane Harvey. We finally got it into the paper, but instead of a four- or five-part series, it was just a one-shot. This might have been a good thing, because the story was very tight and had enormous impact — it went viral. I had originally built six graphics for the series. These three survived to the final version.
