Forty years ago this week, 14-year-old Nadia Comaneci received the first perfect 10 score in competitive gymnastics history. The catch: The scoreboard at the 1976 Montreal Olympic venue wasn’t designed to show a “10.” So the judges put it up as “1.0.” Which caused a bit of confusion. Nadia went on to register a total of seven perfect scores that week and took home three gold medals, one silver and one bronze. I had an enormous crush on Nadia in 1976 — after all, we were the same age — so building this page was a real thrill for me.
