I've been itching to take on the topic of sports concussions. I spoke with two officials with the neurological unit at a nearby hospital and got great quotes and tips from them on how parents can deal with concussions. The little graphic up top is a file piece by Jeff Goertzen. I had planned to request an illustration for this page, but when I saw the numbers, I realized: That just HAD to be my lead visual. Thanks to my old high school buddy Bailey Harris -- now a superb basketball and track coach back home in South Carolina and a newly-inducted member of the state coaching Hall of Fame -- for giving me his perspective on high school sports injuries. His input reaffirmed I was doing the right thing by playing up the numbers. Aug. 22, 2013.
