The day after we launched our new paper in Los Angeles, we ran this great piece about the concrete river beds found in this part of the country. This was another topic I put on my to-do list right after I moved here. We originally wanted to do a cutaway diagram of a river bed, but the timeline -- about half of it was written by reporter Amy Wilson and augmented with Orange County data that I folded in -- pretty much filled up the page. This strikes me as one of our more interesting pages and, really, a prototype for what a great Focus page should be. April 17, 2014
