I put this thing together nearly three years ago for a health story. It came up again — this time, as part of a giant project including our Mike Hixenbaugh and folks at ProPublica. ProPublica hired a medical illustrator to do some line drawings, but I realized I had done a complete graphic on this piece and suggested we revise it and run it again. All we ended up tweaking was the headline and the width.
