Portfolio images

This story about the failings of the mental health system in the United States was so wide-ranging that it was difficult to find one iconic image that would tell the entire story. So I combined multiple images to tell different aspects of the story. But it needed something strong to tie it together. I'd been a bit obsessed by the unsettling nature of Jared Loughner's booking mug. I envisioned what it would be like if it popped up as a snowy image on an old-time television set in a dark room. I pixelated the image in Photoshop to simulate pixels on a television screen and focused in on his mouth and eyes. This was the eventual result.
