It was a slow news day, so our centerpiece was about an older college professor who became an Internet sensation after someone snapped a photo of him skateboarding around campus and put in on Reddit.com. The Reddit photo then spiraled into various Internet memes of this guy.

I wanted to create a centerpiece that was the look and feel of Imgur, the Internet image hosting site on which the photo originally appeared. You can find it here: http://imgur.com/C74O6

With the headline, the closest I could match the font with the Imgur logo was Helvetica medium, although I knew it wasn't right. Similar enough, I guess. I also tried to re-create the up/down votes (the arrows) and the text-area expander graphic (cluster of dots at right). I did the majority of this in InDesign, except for the rounded rectangle box, of course.

Well, the older employees of the newsroom didn't get it, but I wanted to do something different that would hopefully draw in a younger audience to pick up the paper, as a lot of younger people frequent Reddit. My boyfriend ended up snapping a photo of the front page and put it on Reddit, which caused more than 200 comments. Some nice, some controversial, but interesting nonetheless.
