It’s the 30th anniversary when Rep. Tom Foley — of Washington’s 5th Congressional District — was named Speaker of the House after the resignation of Jim Wright. Foley would serve for five fairly contentious years before becoming the first incumbent House speaker to be defeated in a re-election bid since 1862. I thought it would be fun to look at his margin of victory in each of his elections from 1964 through that last one in 1994.
