Perhaps the single most memorable incident of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics was the collision between long-distance runners Mary Decker of the U.S. and Zola Budd of South Africa. My idea was to use a sequence of photos -- as opposed to, say, drawings -- to tell what happened. The obstacle: I couldn't get ahold of a decent series of pictures. But then: Former OC Register staffer Bruce Chambers to the rescue. he shot the definitive sequence and graciously allowed me to use his pictures to tell the story.
