MASS SHOOTINGS

Data on mass shootings is hard to come by — the CDC doesn’t track those numbers, specifically, but there’s a crowdsourced database on Reddit that’s been used by the New York Times, Washington Post and other major news outlets. I used that data, stringing it out day-by-day over the course of the year to show the number of mass shootings. Deaths are black dots, injuries are grey dots. If you have the time, you can find all sorts of interesting things here: The Charleston shootings, for example, were June 17. The Colorado shootings were Nov. 28. Several dates had multiple events in multiple cities. This ran across the top of two pages. Kudos to our desk for getting the space to make this happen for us. Dec. 4, 2015
