The SPARK program is pretty sweet — it takes school playground areas and turns them into parks that can be enjoyed by the general public when school is not in session. This can be important in areas of the metro area where parks haven’t been built as frequently as they perhaps should. A new $5 million grant will allow Houston to develop 30 more of these. They already know where they’ll put nine of ‘em.
