The centerpiece story on this day was about a South Dakota State pitcher who had overcome two seasons of injury to excel his senior year and put himself in line to get drafted. The copy editor and I tossed around headline ideas, finally settling on this one. At the same time, I had put the main image in this configuration, and the two just worked great together.
