One of my all-time favorite projects. A traveling exhibit of Star Wars movie props and hands-on science exhibits was to open in Huntsville, Ala. The publisher of the Huntsville Times wanted six full pages of Star Wars science graphics to lead up to the opening. So my pals in the newsroom there called the biggest science-and-sci-fi geek they knew to make it happen: Me. I compiled all the sidebars myself, including the one in the tint box that focused on the movies themselves. Two Huntsville Times reporters used my suggested questions to track down Huntsville-based NASA scientists to pull together material for the centerpiece tech alternative storyform. The Times' Paul Wallen gracefully art-directed me from 850 miles away. This, obviously, was Day One, featuring laser-type weapons info compiled by Times reporter Kenneth Kesner. June 2010.
