On Sunday, June 14, countries around the world celebrated the World Blood Donor Day, an event started 11 years ago to raise awareness on the need for safe blood while celebrating voluntary donors for saving lives. While this is a noble cause, fewer and fewer people are donating blood as numbers shown in this graphic, and the World Health Organisation’s country’s representative, Dr Custodia Mandlhate, has warned that Kenya’s blood banks could be negatively affected.
