This might be my favorite page one design in my year here at the Chronicle. I was aided by the fact I had to fit in only four stories, which meant I could run that terrific photo — shot by a freelancer, by the way — very large. Originally, we had two election stories down page under our “Campaign 2016” banner, but as I was about to leave the building for the night, word came that Edward Albee had died.
