The Taxis that Saved Paris

Looking back on all these pages later, it seems like I did way too many war pages. But the late summer of 2014 was simply the conjunction of an awful lot of war-themed anniversaries. This one was from World War I and it also focused on a fascinating but still relatively obscure incident in which Paris was saved from being overrun by the German army when fresh reserves were rushed to the front in 600 taxicabs. The battle resulted in "the Race to the Sea" and the start of trench warfare.
