WHEN TEXAS LAST VOTED BLUE

I’ve been sitting on data for a while now that shows how Texas voted in presidential elections going back to Reconstruction. For a while, there, experts were telling us that Texas could potentially go blue this year. That wasn’t likely, but in order to give us a different — and, hopefully, interesting — look to the Sunday before Election Day, we chose to show how long it’s been since Texas went blue in a presidential election. The answer: 40 years. The remarkable Ken Ellis drew the portraits. I did the charting. Susan Barber made the page work.
