I had wanted to do something with the missions but couldn't find just the right angle. This was the 180th anniversary of when the Catholic church finally took action to dump the California missions. The idea was to place them into the hands of the native Americans who had worked the fields and kept up the buildings. Instead, the missions fell into the hands of rich people and political buddies. I showed all 21 missions and described how each faired during "secularization"
