A fascinating piece on how they’re trying to build a fossil fuel-burning power plant that emits no toxic substances into the environment. One way is to use an ammonia-like solvent to scrub exhaust. The other way — which is the case of a new plant they’re building near here — involves mixing oxygen with natural gas before it’s burned, which then results in emissions of pure water and pure carbon dioxide. They can use the latter for various purposes — in this case, to help increase the amount of oil they can pump. Very cool. A collaboration with our DC-based reporter, James Osborne.
