FLOOD HISTORY -

The question was: Is Houston having record-breaking floods more often these days? Has a 60-year flood become an 11-month flood? The answer: Not so much. I took most of the river flood gauges we’ve been monitoring this week and compared this past week’s crest with the highest recorded crests at those same locations. Most of this week’s data were the 4th-highest, 7th highest, 10th highest and so on. Only one set a new record, and a second came within an inch or two of a new record. Four gauges have records set in October 1994 and two have records set 102 years ago. Here’s hoping this puts everything into perspective for readers.
