FLOODING IN THE CROSSROADS

For several days, I had been updating a small three-column — and, later, a two-column — graphic for inside showing river levels and forecasts along the flooded Guadalupe River. For the day after Memorial Day, I went to a lot of trouble to build this giant piece that not only showed the usual, but also included charts showing how the rivers were rising, falling and so on. The material at right cites the National Weather Service descriptions at what is expected to happen at various crests and the historical high point at each measuring station. This took a LOT of work. We ran it only two days before dropping back down to our two-column version.
