Focus: Surfin' Safari

When I first went off to college in the fall of 1980, I wished for a poster that showed the West Coast of the U.S., with dots that showed all the beaches the Beach Boys sang about in all their classic surfin' songs. Thirty-four years later, I finally took matters into my own hands and made the poster myself. The map down the right side shows not only all the beaches Brian Wilson and Co. sang about, but also explains why those beaches merited mentions. The rest of the page is filled out by definitions of the surfin' lingo used in those same songs. I get bonus points, I think, for using a picture of a 19-year-old Sally Field as "Gidget." This was a dream project for me. I wrote about it in my blog: http://bit.ly/1pPfW3O
