I was asked to try to sum up this two-and-a-half-year-old case in which two cops were charged with beating to death an unarmed homeless man. I devoured everything I could find that we had written and I watched the surveillance video over and over so I could pull fresh screen grabs. About ten minutes after I finished this page, word came in that the jury had reached a verdict. We ran this the next day. The only downside: I lost my color position. The screengrabs were black-and-white anyway, though, so no great loss. Wednesday, Jan. 15
