Late Saturday, I received a tip that FEMA had just released a bunch of data showing the claims it expected to result from Harvey. This wasn’t the previously modeled data that had been out for a while — this was based on observed data. I came in early Sunday and spent 12 hours working this up for Monday’s paper. I received help from our transportation write, Dug Begley, who was able to hack into a copy of Arcview to retrieve the 115,000 dots so I could place them in this map. At the last minute, I was told there was no space to run this. The business editor came to my rescue, giving me a half-page inside his section.
