Wire editor Gene Harbrecht suggested I do something for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. I knew I couldn't do a big battle diagram with "only" one full page, so I opted to go for the more obscure -- and, hopefully, fun -- approach with interesting factoids and busting apart untrue legends. The two highlights here are a) Item No. 4 about the equestrian statues, and b) Item No. 7 about the faked photos. Several days after I put this page in the can, one of the wires moved an entire story about the photo scandal. Dammit. All of the art is from the Library of Congress, the National Archives and from the National Park Service. July 1, 2013.
