I had originally planned to avoid this topic -- I figured the rest of the paper would cover it adequately enough -- but a colleague insisted on seeing what I might do with it. I built a timeline of the six days between the murders and OJ's arrest, using most of my space to show the low-speed car chase in detail. For the second time in three months, however, I chose to run my map upside-down in order to make the narrative read more smoothly. When I did this with Steinbeck, I got some pushback and was asked to explain myself. This time: Nada. Turning a map around creeps me out a bit, but I think I did the right thing. Lead art for this page was a bit troublesome -- most of the iconic pictures I wanted to use were LA Times shots. Eventually, I found only this AP file art, one staff shot from ground level and plenty of fuzzy TV screencaps. I went with the AP shot and saved the staff shot for our other packages. June 17, 2014
