I was nearly at the end of a five-month consulting assignment in South Africa when Japan was struck by a giant earthquake and tsunami. My clients ordered up a number of graphics to help tell the story. My contribution was this one, showing how an offshore quake causes such a mess with wave action. Note the little diagram on the right that shows how tall the tsunami was: About five-and-a-half men. This ran in City Press, the English-language nationally-distributed Sunday paper. March 2011
