The Ships at Pearl

I had seen many, many graphics over the years showing how the attack on Pearl Harbor had unfolded, but I had never seen one that showed how it all was resolved. Most people think the entire U.S. fleet at Pearl was sunk, but that's not so. In fact, only a handful of ships were total losses. Most of the ships -- including some that were indeed sunk -- were raised, repaired and lived to fight again. I took a look at 15 ships and show when each entered service, how bad the damage was, how many on board died and what happened afterwards. This ran in the Register on Pearl Harbor Day, 16 days after I left the paper. It was my very last Focus page.
